Congratulations £9,000 And Still Counting

With the weather helping once again NHSC held another hugely successful Bank Holiday 6-A Side competition.

So many thank you's are in order, for the organisers and participants, not just on this day but throughout the year who have repeatedly dug deep and helped to raise an incredible amount so far for both the British Heart Foundation & the Tadworth Childrens Trust.

We have gone one step further this year and have smashed last years final total of £8,000 easily and we still have to look forward to the efforts of the Coly 4, who will be setting off for France next month.

To anyone who has donated

A VERY BIG THANKYOU!

*NEW* Time for Reflection - Majestic Oak

With the apples well and truly falling from the trees and Strictly Come Dancing back on TV, it can only mean one more weekend before the 2011 season comes to end.

A sad feeling comes over me that it has all come to an end so soon, this season seems to have raced by even more quickly than previous years, however, when I think back on all the things once again we have achieved as individuals and as a club we should feel satisfied that this has been another truly fantastic season as in the words the chairman “We have done everything that we said we would do”.

In 20+ weeks we have finished 2nd place in the 1st division on a Saturday, an almost unbeaten Sunday team, a bus trip to Newdigate, a fancy dress evening, many several curry nights, a week’s tour up north (avoiding any casualties in the riots in Birmingham), the fines night out in Brighton and then to top it all a truly amazing effort by the organizing committee to exceed last year’s total money raised for the British Heart Foundation and the Tadworth Childrens Trust.

From a players perspective on Saturday and Sundays It is a time to reflect on the successes, vital centuries and fifties, huge sixes, cameo innings. For the bowlers, the quick bouncy wickets with terrified batsman backing away to square leg, the sound of wickets tumbling and for us all the great memories of some truly outstanding slip and outfield catches.

However for the Saturday team there is a feeling of what could have been, one or two decisions going our way, the coin toss falling in favour of NHCC in a couple of key games and of course the feeling that village cricket should be played by village cricketers!

However, if in May if you had asked the Saturday Skipper if he would take finishing 2nd in our first year back in the 1st division he would have tore your arm off.

The Sunday squad have also had an excellent season with all players developing and contributing at some stage to a very successful season, with only 2 defeats, (one thanks to our very own Darren Jordan playing for the opposition).

So after reflection maybe the end of season is needed but with us all feeling very proud with what we have achieved once more as individuals and as a club and let us hope we can continue the momentum in 2012. Knowing some of our players, maybe we need 7 months off now to rest some weary legs, backs, shoulders and get ready for next year’s ascent at the title on a Saturday, plus the possible introduction of a second team on a Saturday, continued improvement with our Sunday team and above all else maintaining the unbelievable high level of morale around the club.

Here’s to many great friends, some of whom we wont see to next year but couldn't’t miss this opportunity to thank you all for another unforgettable summer with so many laughs during the highs and more importantly during the lows, which makes playing for North Holmwood Cricket Club such a real pleasure and one I will sorely miss during the dark winter months. Lets all stay healthy and keep fit and lets look forward to kicking some more butt next year with always a smile on our faces.
