Saturday XI Match Report 23rd July 2011

Week 12 NHCC verus Capel 1st XI

Match Report - Week 12

NH 150 AO, Capel 56 AO

On another sticky wicket after more overnight rain Capel won the toss and asked Holmwood to bat. Sam Jaques and Rob Ward bowled well on a surface that helped all day and actually got a little harder to play on as the game progressed. Steve Edwards got a cracker from Jaques for 6 and Darren Jordan caught by his brother for 16 off Ward as Holmwood struggled against the moving ball.

Ian Elliott went for 9 as did Dan Hoather as wickets fell all too regularly and when Stewart Homewood, Rob Jones and Andy Guest fell quickly the hosts were in trouble. Scott Minihane and Daryl Goff came
to the rescue with a fine 70 partnership which consisted of a lot of 1's and 2's due to the dampness of the grass.

Minihane especially realised that rotating the strike, hitting to gaps and running hard was the way forward and supported his more experienced partner. Goff went for a fine 54 and Minihane a most valuable 31 leaving skipper Andrew Morgan and Rob Tyers to get the side to 150.

Tea was fine and completely finished!

In reply Sam Bowden and Phil Stevenson eased through the first few overs untroubled until Morgan pinned Stevenson in front. 3 wickets fell on 12 and the home side continued to bowl in good areas which really brought its rewards.

Rob Ward was the only batsman to make double figures as Daryl Goff ripped through the middle order with some fine bowling with another 6 wicket haul for the season (his spell including a chance at another league hatrick, but bowling down the leg side is not going to get you a wicket Mr Goff!!!).

Darren Jordan took the last wicket of the match with another imaginitive ball giving Holmwood 36 very valuable points.

Fancy dress was the order of the evening with Darren Jordan's Elvis, Malc Dunn's Sumo and Rob Tyers Panda costume the highlights. The fun went long in to the evening and the standard has now been set

Pictures will be on the web site very soon!!!!.
