Week 16 NHCC versus South Park Manor 1st XI CC

Match Report - Week 16

NH 225-6, South Park Manor 186 AO

On a day that started with rain, North Holmwood won the toss and decided to bat in another must win game.

Darren Jordan and Rob Tyers (14) started well enough against a struggling South Park side and scored freely around the ground. Tyers went to be replaced by in form Ian Elliott who set about the bowling from ball 1. The 2 put on almost 150 before Elliott went for a fine 71 to be replaced by Robin Lines (16) who hit 2 massive 6's in his short stay (One was last seen flying over the North Holmwood houses adjacent to the ground).

Jordan fell soon after for an excellent 92 and a welcome return to form. Steve Edwards and Matt Whyte made useful contributions when the declaration came at 40 overs with the score on 225, giving NHCC 50 overs to bowl out South Park.

In reply Elsey (35) & Shakir (22) made a solid start (with Shakir swiping at anything outside of offstump which if he had of connected with most of them could of put the visitors in a very strong position) eventually his plan failed and he fell to Goff and then the wickets started to fall on a regular basis.  Goff ended up with 3-42 and Jordan 4-46 picked their way through the lineup on a good batting strip with good bowling, the NHCC fielders spent most of the afternoon surrounding the bat depserate to take any chance on offer. Once Elsey the opener was finally dismissed NHCC smelt a collapse was possible and thats how it turned out to be, but not without some late resistance by the middle and late order, but eventually with Lines and Elliott both gettting wickets it was left to Goff to take the final wicket to clinch victory with only a couple of overs to spare.

Please note that we are not publishing match stats now until after the End of Season Presentation Evening to try to preserve the excitement and anticipation of the final big night out for the players.
