Week 2 Brockham Green 1st XI CC verus NHCC
Match Report - Week 2
Brockham Green 205-8, NH 124-8
Holmwoods first league visit to Brockham in some years turned out to be one to forget. Skipper Andrew Morgan decided to open the bowling with Robin Lines and Daryl Goff on a wicket that looked as though there would be something in it for the bowlers.
Unfortunately Lines couldn't get his run up going and although bowling some very good balls offered up too many 4 balls. Paul Tipping and Owen Taylor played really well putting on 50 in difficult conditions before OT went cleaned bowled by skipper Morgan who had replaced Lines.
Goff bowled well without luck or reward all afternoon. Tipping looked set for a big score after surviving a chance off Goff before Morgan got him too with one that kept a tad low. Robert Jones was asked to have a go and found himself up against the destructive Gerard Weide for his first league bowl for the club.
Stewart Homewood replaced him and got reward early as Weide tickeld a widish delivery to Dan Hoather behind the stumps. Darren Jordan came in to the attack and bowled well getting wickets regularly. Weill, Haines and Pearson got good runs to take the total to the declaration to 205-8.
Tea was very good thanks...
In reply Billy Scott-Malden and Gerard Wiede took the new ball with Jordan and Rob Tyers opening for Holmwood. Brockham consistently bowled better lines ad lengths than their visitors did got rewards early as Tyers played on and Hoather tickled behind.
Ian Elliott and Jordan started to rebuild and played some decent shots in getting to 60 before Jordan pulled straight to square leg for 40. Robin Lines joined Elliott only to find Mark Haines using the wicket perfectly, as balls started to pop and then actually roll. Elliott was adjudged lbw from the left arm rounder and Lines bowled by a pea roller and Holmwood were in trouble. Goff left a straight one, bowled!! Jones and Homewood soon followed as scoring became more and more difficult.
However Steve Edwards and Andrew Morgan then batted superbly for 10 overs to see a draw was achieved, most unsatisfactorily.
A side note to say that Robin Lines has an early marker down for injury of the year with a visit to the hospital for a deep gash in his chin and work on his leg where his own studs dug deep gauges whilst fielding.
