Week 3 Capel 1st XI Versus NHCC

Match Report - Week 3

Capel 144 AO, NH 145-5

The skipper lost the toss and we were asked to field first on a bright day at Capel. Holmwood started well with Andrew Morgan and Daryl Goff bowling lovely tight lines restricting scoring to a minimum. Unfortunately a few chance went a begging but still wickets did tumble at regular intervals. Robin Lines and Stewart Homewood were first change and both hit good areas often enough to continue applying the pressure making the batsmen play outside their comfort zones.

Ian Elliott and Darren Jordan came on to good effect as the last 4 wickets fell in 8 overs. Ash Smith, Sam Bowden and Martin Wheelwright all got in but couldn't convert their starts in to a big score.

Teas were terrific, loads and really, really nice.

In reply Jordan and Steve Edwards got off to a flier as Capel chose to use spin to mix things up at the start. Jordan was particularly brutal and raced to 30 in just a few overs before falling to a great leg side take from the keeper.

Ian Elliott joined Edwards and the 2 made steady progress but found life harder against Sam Jaques and Rob Ward. As both fell with the total around 100 a little wobble looked likely until the ever reliable Daryl Goff and Scott Minihane took the initiative away from the home side and a 5 wicket win was recorded.

All retired to the bar where more food was brought out to help soak up the alcohol, thanks to all at Capel..
