Saturday XI Match Report 11th June 2011

Week 6 NHCC versus Westcott 1st XI CC

Match Report - Week 6

NH 215 AO, Westcott 155-7

On a bright day at Holmwood on Saturday Westcott were the visitors for the 1st time in some years. The hosts perched on top of the table were expecting a tough challenge and so it turned out to be.

Westcott won the toss and asked Andrew Morgans team to bat on a good looking wicket that had been exposed to quite a bit of water in the previous few days. Darren Jordan and Steve Edwards opened and got off to a flyer as Jordan especially tucked in to both Paul's, Hughes and Shaw. Edwards was the anchor and was first to go caught behind for 11 but with the score on 81.

Robin Lines found concentration difficult after a bang on his head and his recent good form looked a long way off as he joined Jordan. Delloford and Gale were now bowling tight lines and the run rate slowed before Jordan got a ball that stopped a little in the pitch offering up a simple chance for a well made 71.

Ian Elliott took a little time before he got going and took a liking to Delloford and the returning Shaw before tickling one down the leg side for 44. Pickering had come on to take the pace off the ball and the Holmwood batter succumbed all to easily as Andrew Guest, John Dibble and Scott Minihane didn't hang around. Stewart Homewood, Andrew Morgan and angry Gavin Morrison put the bat to ball as quick runs were required eventually all out in the 45th over with Rob Tyers the not out batsmen..

Tea was plentiful.

In reply Brierley and Pickering started well with the former making the 1st 50 against Holmwood in the league this season. Robin Lines bowled well without any luck as edges flew all around, Andrew Morgan too unfortunate with a good line up the hill.

Ian Elliott replaced Morgan and Darren Jordan replaced Lines and the 2 inform bowlers started making in roads in to the batting line up. Elliott bowled full with pace, using the crease to his advantage whilst Jordan turned the ball both ways with ease. Elliott bowled Brierley (51) and a few balls later accounted for Morgan for a duck whilst Jordan found the edge of Pickering's bat for Scott Minihane to take a sharp chance. Paul Dowman and Mike Shaw looked comfortable but found scoring difficult. Dowman holed out to a good catch from John Dibble but Shaw look comfortable for the most part. Hughes went to Stewart Homewood cheaply, Deloford run out and a good quick yorker from Gavin Morrison to get rid of Shaw for 42 meant an uncomfortable last few overs for Westcott to hang on for a draw.
