Saturday XI Match Report 2nd July 2011

Week 9 East Horsley 1st XI CC verus NHCC

Match Report - Week 9

NH 245-7, East Horsley 136-9

The last game of the 1st half of the season saw table toppers North Holmwood visit East Horsley. After the early loss of Darren Jordan to, A Drake, Steve Edwards (39) and Ian Elliott (55) played superbly on a surface that encouraged the bowlers afternoon.

Edwards good recent form continued and looked destined for a big score until he got a beauty from Dawe to be caught behind. Robin Lines got caught round the corner for 4 and Elliott swung hard and was bowled by the returning A Drake.

Daryl Goff who had been struggling in recent times played wonderfully for a quick 52 and the tempo was kept high by Stewart Homewood (9) and Rob Jones (18) before Dan Hoather's superb cameo, an unbeaten 38.

Tea was good but in short supply (Except for the Ice Cream!!)

In reply skipper Andrew Morgan had Carpenter caught by Elliott at slip to set the tone as the visitors dominated. Goff then cleaned out the next 2 leaving Horsley reeling at 17-3.

The Drake brothers then batted sensible until Robin Lines came on and got both in his first 2 overs with exaggerated swing bowling. Homewood and Elliott both got a wicket with Lines taking an unbelievable catch at short gully. With Holmwood only needing one wicket for the last few overs Kopit and Garlic held firm and the draw was secured.

Half way through the season and top of the pile, who would have thought it??
