North Holmwood vs Capel - away 27th June 2009

On a scorching day in Capel Brad Pearce won the toss and asked Holmwood to field in the heat, maybe a decision he may have regretted later.

Andy Morgan opened from the bowling club end and started with a full toss that was despatched for 4, the next ball too was poor but Stephens chopped it straight to 3rd man where Ollie Wall took a good catch. Skipper Goff opened the other end and quickly found a good length to worry all the batsmen. In all fairness the wicket was not a good one with irregular bounce but it was the same for both sides. Dazza bowled Brad with one that cut back a long way. Matt Jee and Chris Thurgood did well to hang around against difficult conditions before Jee holed out to Nobby Homewood who actually got his excuse out before the ball arrived in case he dropped it!

Liam Costello batted well making 33 before Steve Edwards made his mark on the game with a good catch in the gully. Sam Bowden(15), Jamie O'Brien(11) and Jas Geldenhuys(25) made good contributions late on to get the total to 139. Gav Morrison, Greg Lapere and Ian Elliott took good catches on a day that Holmwood's fielding in general was good.

Tea was very good, especially the sausages!!

Geldenhuys and Chris Ward opened up for Capel and bowled good tight lines making scoring difficult for Darren Jordan and Rob Tyers to score. Jordan went first caught behind bringing the Chairman to the crease. A flurry of boundaries came before he ran Tyers out and then tickled one behind for 20. Andy Guest, short of matches in recent weeks, was adjudged LBW for 10, bringing Nobby and Steve Edwards too the wicket. Nobby's quick fire 24 swung the game Holmwood's way and with Steady Eddie's super 37 took the visitors to the brink of victory. On their demise it was left to Morgo and Dazza to see the side home for a deserved victory.
