North Holmwood vs Capel - home 29th August 2009

On another glorious afternoon at Inholms Lane the home side wanted to record a last game of the season win over newly promoted Capel. Capel won the toss and decided to bat on another very good wicket at Holmwood. Skipper Brad Pearce and veteran Dave Jaques opened the innings and put on 67 for the 1st wicket with Jaques hitting to all parts and Pearce riding his luck a little. Jaques went first caught by Andy Morgan off skipper Daryl Goff's bowling. Pearce fell to a good catch by Ian Elliott from Robin Lines bowling for 42. Jee, Thurgood and Costello all fell quickly to Stewart Homewood with the help of Adam Russill and Steve Edwards catches. Tim Mitchell in what may have been his last innings struck a couple of lusty blows before Lines cleaned him out. At 104-6 Neil Bennett was joined by Ketan Patel and after surviving a close run out call the 2 put on 78 to take the total up to 182 off 45 overs. All the Holmwood boys bowled well with Homewood and Lines the pick.

Tea was good.

In reply Darren Jordan and Rob Tyers made a good start putting on 57 before Jordan went for 30, Tyers fell soon after for 19 both to the wily Jaques. Elliott and Lines took stock and played with intent against good tight bowling from all the Capel lads. Elliott was next to go caught off the toe of his bat from a loosener from Chris Ward who finished the day with 5-44. Lines fell too from a poor delivery and then the chase was on. Edwards hit well for 21 but the middle order failed until Morgan came and  slogged for 22 unbeaten to get the hosts close but ultimately not close enough!

All in though Holmwood's return to division 2 has been a successful and fun season, congratulations to skipper Daryl Goff and  to all the lads. The Chairman.
