North Holmwood vs Cheam - home 27th September 2009

And so to the last actual arranged game of the season and a home game against Cheam (3rds 4ths I was led to believe) on another lovely day in leafy Surrey.
We were asked to field and skipper Andy Guest chose Gavin Morrison and Daryl Goff to do the honours. Scoring was slow against some good tight bowling and decent fielding. The over rate again was around 18/19 overs per hour and that helped speed the game along. Darren Jordan replaced Gav and Ian Elliott
replaced Goff and still runs were at a premium on a good surface for batting it must be said. At drinks after 20 overs the oppo were at 60 without loss but the skipper had retired ill as it was obvious he was suffering. Joey got a wicket and the lads were happy, bowled by a top spinner we were informed by Mr Jordan. Guesty rang the changes and Dave Lines came up the hill and found a good line and length from ball one, eventually getting his usual reward of a wicket a game. A surprise choice down the hill was Richard Cairnes but he too bowled well and gave the batsmen little to hit and got a wicket after a fine catch by Robin Lines at mid off. Ian page got a couple of overs at the death and did well. The last over of the year was given to Malc Dunn and his very very slow right arm thingies were fun for all to see except the batsmen who struggled with patience and nearly fell because of it.

Tea was lovely, with left over gateaux from Fridays awards night to finish mmmmmmm

In reply Darren Jordan hit the first ball for 4 before unleashing a huge slog later in the over which missed the ball but the ball didn't miss the wicket. Ian Page was joined by Robin Lines who continued from the day before and hit anything off line for a boundary. Pagey went for 8 to be replaced by find of the year Richard Cairnes who hit hard for 12 before he too missed a straight one. Skipper Guest played a couple of lovely leg side flicks in his quick fire 11. Daryl Goff's miserable year with the bat continued as he fell for 4 and he was quickly followed by young Gav for 2. That left Ian Elliott to join Lines jr at the crease and the 2 quickly knocked off the 30+ needed to complete a weekend double and finish the season off in style.
