Plucky Skipper Cleal won the toss - took one look at the pitch and his team and decided to bat, sending Jordan (the batsman not the model – mores the pity) and Page boy out to bat with the words I am going to play myself in being uttered from the boy as he strolled out. True to form the Holmwood drive was soon being deployed and Jordan stood at the non strikers end in admiration and some envy! Sadly the entertainment did not last long and Skipper Cleal strode to the wicket seeking 10 runs for his 100 as Page Boy came the other way. Needless to say following a brief stay the Skipper is still seeking 10 runs. Olly followed swiftly missing one of those cunning straight ones that some bowlers have and Alex – currently in England form with the bat continued his strokeplay. The oppos then unfairly put their leggy on and Jordan was soon cursing as he was caught, allowing Lines Snr to the crease. Not wishing to hog the batting and after a record breaking sequence of leaving 3 balls in a row outside off stump, the wrong one was too good on a pitch suddenly taking spin. The innings was faltering when Cairns strode to the wicket and with Lounis and the tail, blasted a quickfire innings only to be cruelly run out by Dazza in the last over for 48 allowing Jones the Bat to face the final delivery.
Tea was excellent as we have come to expect at Holmwood.
The Deando Ruxley innings was assisted early on by some wayward Holmwood bowling down the hill. Dazza was his usual accurate self up the hill and soon had one opener standing in stunned silence as he missed a straight one and should have had a second as the number 3 decided that a solid edge to the keeper did not deserve a wicket aided and abetted by an apparently deaf umpire and that he would do better in his second innings and stayed put after a solid edge to Jones, The batsmen became set but were continually tested by Wyatt and Goff. The Skipper decided that spin might be the answer and Jordan was asked to bowl down the hill and soon a wicket fell. In a moment of inspiration Lines Snr was asked to warm up and the spin twins were employed. In his first bowl since August last year Snr had two clean bowled in no time (if only a sharp chance behind had been taken?) and the innings slowed down as the gloom descended. Dazza and Wyatt were brought back for the closing over’s but Deando Ruxley edged home with only a few deliveries left with their opener having played solid 50 odd – even if he did complain that the ball was too hard and split the bottom of his bat.
NORTH HOLMWOOD 172 for 9 Lost to DEANDO RUXLEY 173 for 4
