North Holmwood vs Epsom II - away 23rd August 2009

On a cracking day weather wise, which will be remembered more for England regaining the Ashes than Holmwood's first visit to Epsom's Alexandra's Park, skipper Wyo won the toss and decided to field! Younger brother Alex Wyatt opened the attack with Stewart Homewood on a used wicket. A youthful Holmwood side still made fielding look decidedly average except for the safe hands of Gavin Morrison. The Chairman took the catch off Al for the first wicket. Nobby very miserly at the other end going for just a run an over but wicket less. Daryl Goff replaced Al and the skipper replaced Nobby. The skipper's mixture of deliveries helped the scoreboard tick along. Darren Jordan replaced Goff and got prodigious turn and bowled without luck but still got 2 wickets, one a good stumping for Ollie Wall behind the sticks. Mark Page replaced the skipper and bowled from memory, some good ones and plenty of average ones. The introduction of the Chairman saw the end of the innings as he cleaned bowled a couple with a run out in between executed by the skipper and keeper.

Tea time, nuff said.

In reply Ghylas Lounis and Gavin Morrison were asked to get us off to a steady start, unfortunately Gav got one that kept a little low to lose his middle stump. Ghy followed tamely for 4 leaving us 4-2. Ian Page played sensibly for his 15 before one too many shots cost him his wicket. Ollie Wall was beaten by the young leg spinner and shouldered arms to go LBW. Mark Page hit a quick 14 before he too went to the youngster. Stew Homewood was yorked for 2 and Mike Cleal caught for 5. Whilst all this was going on Ian Elliott was collecting runs off the bad balls offered up. A few huge sixes brought the scores closer and finished the game with another 6 to remain 90 not out. Alex Wyatt played very sensibly and as soon as he realise that playing straight will get him greater rewards he'll convert his many starts in to a big score, in this innings he finished unbeaten on 10 with 2 lovely fours.
