Kensington 213-5, North Holmwood 214-4
On a beautiful day in North Holmwood and on another cracking cricket wicket these two sides locked horns for the first time in 3 years.
A 40 over game was agreed and Kensington got use of the wicket first. Alex Wyatt was unlucky not to get an early wicket as the Chairman failed to grab a low chance off Darren Bowden, an expensive miss that was! Daryl Goff opened up and troubled the two openers but a painful shin put paid to his afternoons work after 4 overs. Bowden and J Pickles then got on top of the bowling as skipper Cleal struggled early for a length to bowl. Greg Lapere got his first bowl of the season but had trouble with the radar and after 20 overs the visitors were 106 without loss at the drinks break. First ball on the resumption Ian Elliott had Bowden caught at slip for a fine 45, a knock that earned him his sides 'Johnnie Walker Black Label whisky' man of the match. Jamie Kelleher replaced Bowden and started confidently and a happy hunting ground for him until a miss timed cut was snaffled by keeper Ollie Wall of the Chairman's bowling. Darren Jordan's leg spin put a strangle hold on the run rate when bowling in tandem with the Chairman. Elliott's 8 over rewarded with 2-26 Jordan's 8 overs reaped 1-34 but could have had so many more. A late onslaught by Singh and Khan took the total to 213. A mention for Ghilas Lounis who took a great running catch in the deep and with the keeper effected a super run out.
Tea was lovely. Drinks were needed!!
In reply Jordan and Goff set off at a pace, Goff riding his luck as Mr Pickles dropped him twice at point. Goff Went first for 18 caught well at slip by Neeraj Nayar. Jordan powered on until he tamely coughed one up to cover for 41. Ollie Wall hung around for a nice 13 before he missed a straight one, again! So enters Little and Large, Andy Guest with his years of experience and 'new boy' Richard Cairnes with brut strength and little finesse (yet)! As the bowlers changed with regularity Big Rich (guessing he doesn't want to be known as Dick) found his range and started despatching balls to all parts whilst his illustrious partner played himself in. Cairnes' maiden 50 included 3 sixes of which 1 especially went a country mile before he missed a straight one to be adjudged LBW. Guesty went on and grew in confidence hitting beautifully through both on and off sides making an unbeaten 67 to win the game for Holmwood.
North Holmwoods 'Johnnie Walker Black Label whisky' man of the match chosen by Kensington CC was Richard Cairnes
