North Holmwood vs Nutfield away - 2nd August 2008

A dull, overcast afternoon spent on Nutfield marsh was enhanced by the visitors fine use of the English language. The Captain succeeded, once again, at the coin toss and opted to insert the competition on what looked an exhausted track. Daryl joined the Captain in starting the proceedings, as the they have done extremely well together over the past few weeks.
The two bowled meticulous lines and often beat the outside edge during a fine opening spell. After a very early wicket, 20 overs of obstinate battle ensued. Eventually Dazza started to penetrate the batting line up and actually decimated the middle order finishing with another splendid return of 7 wickets. Once again the standard of fielding was of an exalted standard with Adam 'razor like' Russill and Andy 'Morgs' Morgan excelling when required.
A meagre total of 115 was set by the hosts and after an impressive tea enhanced by the home made cake North started their retort.
The two Rob's strode gallantly to the crease and batted diligently for the first few overs keeping the scoreboard ticking over nicely. Eventually Jr pulled a ball to mid on who took a memorable low ankle high catch. Jr was distraught !! Rob T was joined by the inconvenienced Chairman. The runs started to come until the Chairman lobbed tamely to mid on to meet his demise. Guesty entered the fray and was soon run out by Mr Tyers much to his annoyance. Dave Welton decided to raise the tempo with some lusty blows before a prodigious catch from the keeper sent him packing. Matt Jordan's sublime cameo innings took the visitors to within 2 of victory before Dazza thundered the winning runs over long on.
26 points to augment our already substantial total tally. Nearly at the promised land ………………………………………………..
