The visit of second placed Nutfield II to Inholms lane was going to give us a good guide to the remainder of the season, I hope.
The skipper won the toss and with the promise of a shower or two during the afternoon made the simple choice of asking Nutfield to bat. The wicket was slow due to the amount of water dumped on it in the previous week and it looked obvious that bowling a side out would be tricky from the first few overs. The skipper opened down the hill with Daryl (unlucky) Goff starting up. Robin snaffled the first wicket as Craig Mcl' prodded at a leg stump delivery from the skipper. Daryl beat the bat on countless occasions with oooo's are rrrr's a plenty. My personal advice to the lad would be to bowl at the whole bat not just the edge!! Goffer wicket less again!! With the run rate at about 1 per over the changes were made and Robin got the nod down the hill and Morgs up. The next wicket was again caught by Robin off Morgs at short leg and then Rob made it a hat trick of catches as he caught one off his own bowling. Morgs was soon replaced by the very vocal Nobby who proceeded to bribe the batsman to get out which they duly did. 3-26 for our resident Bobby. Robin was bowling boomerangs by now and a Jaffa of a leg stump yorker accounted for the oppo's skipper, 3-44 his final haul.
48 overs bowled and 113 to chase.
Robin and Rob T opened the batting and rattled along at a fair old pace, especially Robin who put a few bowlers to the sword in a quick fire 43. The Chairman followed and made a solid 23 before getting a leading edge back to the bowler (bu**er!!). Nobby made a small contribution to the total before departing leaving wet weather, 27*, and 'unlucky' Goffer, 14*, to wrap up the win in double quick time. 25 points to the tally.
