North Holmwood vs Ockley - away 22nd August 2009

The wheels on the bus go round and round.

The second time Holmwood used the bus turned out to be slightly more successful than the first. On what turned out to be a beautiful day the lads boarded the double decker in Inholms Lane and took the short journey to Ockley. On arrival skipper Goff won the toss and elected to field with a positive result required for our slim chances of promotion to carry on to the final game next week against Capel. Andrew Morgan shared the new ball with his skipper and it was soon evident the recent rain had livened up the track. Daryl snared the first wicket, Dave Welton taking a good catch behind the stumps off one that got big. Morgs trapped Ben Belfridge in front for the second bring Sweet in to join Rod Cowles, both played some good shots before Darren Jordan had Cowles well stumped by 'thirsty' Welton. Jamie Fletcher played some attacking shots before the skipper brough on Robin Lines from the football end. It took him a few overs to find a length and pace to bowl at but when he did the course of the game did too. His 6 wickets were all bowled using mainly in swing and a perfect length, Ockley crumbling from 90-4 to 114 all out.

Tea was great, especially the lemon cake and jelly & cream.

In reply Rob 'slick' Tyers and Jordan set about the total in qick fashion after the hosts chose to use the old ball and spin to start off with. Many bowlers were used, all of which got something out of the wicket but the catching let them down. 'Slick was the only wicket to fall to the promising Sam Husband with one he should have played forward to instead of back. Jordan was especially hard on anything full and finished unbeaten on 72 whilst the Chairman struggled for an ugly 8 not out at the end.
