On another very even paced true wicket Skipper Wyo asked the opposition to have first use, in a cunning tactic he used Gav Morrison and Ian Elliott to open both have minimal run ups. In the first hour Holmwood bowled 22 overs, a very good effort on not the warmest of days. Unfortunately Holmwood were at a
disadvantage early on when it became noticeable that half the team had leg injuries! Anyway OACC put on 80 for the first wicket which was taken by Alex Wyatt sporting a new, streamline haircut. Most of the batsmen found themselves at ease on the wicket and with a team of hobblers 'chasing' the ball runs were quite easy to come by. 8 bowlers in all were used with Lines snr getting one to keep low for his customary wicket per game at the moment and some subtle variation from the tour spinner, Mr A Guest! A few drops in the field didn't help much either and with 15 wides bowled by the younger members a stiff total was set.
Tea was lovely.
In reply Guesty and Joey started like a train and looked in no trouble until a flamboyant flick off his legs towards cow caused Guesty's demise caught at slip!! Richard Cairnes carried on his recent good form with a more selective 18 including 1 very large 6, not bad for a 29 year old. Alex Wyatt looked comfortable until given LBW on the back foot leaving the Chairman to join Mr run machine himself Darren Jordan. The 2 looked very easy and the runs flowed all around the park against all the bowlers.
Eventually Elliott's luck ran out and he was caught at deepish mid wicket off a rank long hop for 36. In strode the skipper looking for 10 to reach the 100 for the season just a day after he and his brother were in the centre pages of the Daily Telegraph photographed with Andrew Strauss! A crisp cover drive first ball got the crowd involved and soon enough the magical 10th run was taken much to the relief of the said captain. Ghy Lounis then took one for the team right in the crown jewels much to the amusement
of his team mates which slowed his running between the wickets right down. Still Jordan went on through the 80's, crawled through the 90's and eventually to his 2nd hundred of the season, a good one too. Unfortunately he fell with 4 need for victory leaving Ghy then Gav to hit the runs which unfortunately they failed to do!!
Congrats to OACC, well played.
NORTH HOLMWOOD 213 for 7 Lost to OLD ASHFORDIANS 215 for 6
