North Holmwood vs Old Woking - away 4th July 2009

On another lovely day for cricket the Holmwood bandwagon turned up at Old Woking. On inspection the wicket looked
under prepared and this was confirmed by the OW skipper, Matt Prisco, who said that the large roller had broke just
after the ground had been scarified!! Old Woking won the toss and decided to bat!!

Andrew Morgan and Daryl Goff opened the bowling and soon caused both batsmen problems with the aid of the wicket. Dave Welton caught Collin from a snorter bowled by the skipper to set the tone of the day. Catches win matches. Prisco and Hughes creamed the bad
ball for boundaries before both had their timbers rattled. Stewart 'Nobby' Homewood replace Morgan and after the first
loose over bowled with good accuracy whilst Robin Lines replaced the skipper. Lines' extra pace caused the ball to take on
tennis ball bounce causing the run rate to slow almost to a stop. Good catches from Steve 'Hollywood' Edwards, Nobby
and Darren Jordan meant wickets tumbled at regular intervals. The skipper took the final wicket to claim another 5 for in
a season he will remember for a while.

Tea. Undoubtedly the finest yet on our travel, pizza - sausages - strawberry and cream et all. Mmmmmmmmmmm

And so to Holmwood's reply. Jordan and Rob Tyers strode slowly to the wicket wondering what was in stall for them
whilst their team mates collapsed around the ground, in the shade, to let tea go down. DJ swung extravagantly at an early
delivery only to be reprimanded by his colleague for his efforts. Heads firmly down Darren and Rob chipped away at the
total murdering any loose balls and playing with enough style to think of a ten wicket victory. All the while George Welton
was entertaining the lads with regular purps seemingly at will, (George being Dave's boy not Dave!!) Bowlers came and went
as the Tyers - Jordan show strode on relentlessly until on 96 Jordan came a cropper for a superb 67. The Chairman
joined Tyers to see the few runs needed for victory were achieved. With SPM losing and Capel winning with less points
North Holmwood reached the heady heights of top of the table for the first time this season. Can they hold on, are they
good enough, will the beer eventually take it's toll or will they run out of money and not be able to pay their fines? All this
and more will be revealed in the next instalment of …….'Holmwoods great adventure' or 'The famous 11 take on the world'
