North Holmwood vs Old Woking home - 14th June 2008

"He can still be quite dangerous"
It seems the Chairman's lack of runs in the league had become a point of issue with a few of the team and so Saturday obviously came as a relief to some. The Skipper won the toss, again, thanks to Morgs for the lucky coin.
An easy decision to field against the second placed side in the league was made and the game started at just before 2. Some very economical bowling from captain Cheesy and 'unlucky jr', Morgs, kept the batsman at bay. An early drop from doubter Jordan raised an eyebrow or 2 but he soon rectified the situation catching the opener at mid off soon after. Overs passed as the batters toiled against the precision attack and it looked as though a score of around 100 would be our target. Unbeknown to us the team caught a severe case of dropsy and the fielding in general started dip below our recent high standards. Robin came in to the attack with Nobby and although the bat was beaten repeatedly, the runs started to come. Robins extra pace meant deflections and edges flew to the boundary and a few loose deliveries from Nobby allowed the total to rise.
Still there were plenty of really good balls bowled that didn't get what they deserved. The Captain's figures were impressive with 1-27 off 13 overs with Robin taking 3-51 and Morgs 3-52. Added to our fielding woes was Rob Tyers split webbing and Wally's hamstring pull, a source of amusement to many, Jonesy !! Although our standards did fall this week in the field the exceptions were Adam Russell and Greg Lapere who were faultless as usual.
Tea came and we knew we had a real challenge, 162 to get off 42 overs.
The two Rob's opened and looked comfortable against the bowling until Robin leant back and cut to only to find gully. Rob T batted through the pain for a while but was put out of his misery by a ball that nipped back. The Chairman was joined by Guesty and the recovery started. A few early lusty blows from the Chairman had the field moving backwards and with Guesty finding some form runs came at a quicker pace. Guesty fell leaning back to cut only to find gully. Nobby's arrival meant one of two things, an early dismissal or a quick fire run fest, luckily the first ball was missed with an ugly swot and with a few careful words from the senior partner the rashness was quelled. As the innings went on Nobby played some lovely drives to cow corner and the Chairman was picking runs up at will. The end came with 8 overs remaining with the chairman 83* and Nobby 33*. A good victory and at last the
Chairman showed Matt 'doubter' Jordan that he could still be quite dangerous - Ye of little faith !!
