North Holmwood vs Salfords - away 9th May 2009

Chairman's Day??????

On a clear bright day Salfords won the toss and asked Holmwood to bat. On a pig of a pitch with an excessive seam movement and with ideal conditions for swing bowling, runs were hard to make early on. The innings started badly as Rob Tyers played on to one that swung in and nipped back and then Darren Jordan got the ball of the day to leave the visitors struggling. Ian Elliott was getting full reward for any ball off line whilst trying his best to get in line with everything else. Andy Guest's short stay was ended after a snorter heading towards his chops was fended to second slip. New boy Steve Edwards showed some grit to survive 8 overs for his 8 before skipper Goff
joined the Chairman. The two then took the bowling apart hitting high and long where ever possible whilst surviving a few chances given them by the fielding team.
Daryl went on to make 40 leaving the Chairman to go on to make the 50th century of his career making 129 including 8 huge sixes before the Captain declared on 222-6 off 44 overs.

Tea was lovely, especially the cup cakes.

And so the reply started with April's player of the month Andy Morgan taking the new ball with his skipper. Daryl cleaned out the opener with a swine of a ball that jagged back and Darren Jordan took a sizzler off the skipper at second slip soon after. Morgs then got in on the act as stand in keeper 'wet weather' Tyres took the first of his three catches. With many slips and close fielders the pressure was on for the batsmen with only Graham Stewart getting meaningful runs with a fine
unbeaten 50 at the close. Darren Jordan changed from medium pace to spin to mop up the tail and to give Holmwood the full 40 points leaving the skipper as happy as a pig in poop. A mention too for Robin Lines who took his first wicket of the season in his first game after injury and to Stewart Homewood whose initial burst saw him bowl in some lovely areas to tempt the batters.
