North Holmwood vs Southwater home - 26th April 2009

As Sunday follows Saturday so aches and pains follow Saturday's games!! As Darren and The Chairman discussed how awful they felt Sunday morning following their efforts the day before the changing room filled with younger lads bubbling with enthusiasm, Darren second oldest on the day, the Chairman oldest urgh!!
Southwater won the toss and asked NH to bat on the same wicket as the day before, which if anything got better and better as the day went on. The Jordan's opened the batting, New Boy Darren and Brockham loanee Danny the day after his maiden century. Danny looked in fine form timing the ball well only to find a leading edge for a simple catch to gully for 11. The Vice
captain strode to the wicket unaware off the impact he'd have on the game later in the day and hit a confident 12 before falling in a similar fashion to the first wicket. The Chairman joined yesterdays hat trick hero at the crease and the tempo of the innings changed instantly. Darren flaying the ball to all parts whilst the Chairman straight drove a huge 6 to lay a marker
to all challengers that the pavilion must be cleared again this season.
With the score increasing and the partnership reaching 100, the oppo turned to their star bowler who even with half a run up generated quite some pace. Nick's introduction was immediate
as the Chairman holed out tamely at mid wicket for 36 (in a 100+ partnership, age must be catching up with him!!!). Unfortunately for 'Water, Darren was now in full flow but nearing his century a full toss lobbed gently towards him, caught high up the splice and the keeper took an easy catch - 96! Steve Edwards and Dazza put on quick runs to help the total to a respectable 190+.
A side note, Southwater's ground fielding was very good, a standard NH need to attain this season.
Tea, lovely it was too.

In reply Alex Wyatt opened down the hill and came across a cricketer in fine flow, hitting any bad ball or even off line ball to all parts.
Daryl opened up the hill and unbelievably took a hat trick to reduce Southwater to 25-3. The oppo's skipper joined the opener and dispatched any bad ball as hard as his partner. As the total passed 100, Skipper Wyo changed the bowlers to little effect until the return of Dazza from the top end, with skill and accuracy he started to chip in to the batting line up as the opener held the
innings together while others fell on a regular basis. Eventually even he fell to Daryl this time to a fantastic catch from fine master extraordinaire and Vice skipper Andrew Morgan Esq. for a super 95. To describe the take would take a man with a far larger vocabulary than mine but in plain English, the left hander got a descent edge and with no slip in place Morgs' cat like reaction meant the left gauntlet took the ball inches above the ground and a full length away (for comparison it would have been 2 of Mr Guests body lengths if that helps!!). As I write I can hear those who played say 'How much did Morgs pay him to write that cr*p?' but honestly it wasn't
that much……..It really was a good catch. And so, Daryl ended his 8 over stint with figures of 8 wickets for 9 runs and an early contender for 'Best bowling' and 'Performance of the year' awards, superb. It was left to Darren to take a return catch to finish the innings off and a 30 (ish) run victory. Congratulations to Ian Page on his return to the club and for making all those
present have a good laugh as a spirited chase to the boundary culminated in a swan dive worthy of a 9 at any diving competition.
2 Hat tricks (and 2 wins) in 1 weekend …... Wow!
