An evening with a Sporting Legend: Steve Claridge

Steve Claridge is a former English footballer who played more than 800 matches for 15 league clubs and several non-league clubs over the course of a 24-year playing career. Steve appeared for Bournemouth in December 2006 at the age of 40 which gave him the distinction of being one of a very select few players who have amassed 1000 career appearances. His career spanned over a period of 22 years, scoring more than 250 goals and he pulled on the shirt of over 20 clubs. Steve has proudly been voted 'fans' Player Of The Year at all the clubs in which he played for the whole season. Steve has played for Fareham Town, Bournemouth, Weymouth, Crystal Palace, Aldershot, Cambridge United, Luton Town, Birmingham City, Leicester City, Portsmouth, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Millwall, Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford, Wycombe Wanderers, Gillingham, Bradford City, Walsall, Worthing and Harrow Borough.

He is now a leading pundit for BBC Sport, where he is a regular face of both The Football League Show and Football Focus. He is a respected and popular co- commentator and summariser for all football coverage on BBC TV and Radio 5 Live.

Steve has a regular column in The Guardian, which covers his scouting report on many of the games up and coming young players. His other national media work has included Sky Sports, Setanta Sports, Central Television and Channel 5.

In 2009 Steve released his updated autobiography, 'Beyond The Boot Camps', which follows on from 'Tales From the Boot Camps', his entertaining and successful autobiography of his life outside the Premiership.
